Read Percy Harvin's Responses to ACES Students' Questions!

A team of 11 lucky ACES students from Linwood-Monroe and Green Central schools wanted to know more about electrifying Vikings rookie wide receiver Percy Harvin, so the students researched Percy and came up with 11 questions for him. These same students attended the November 29 Vikings game versus the Chicago Bears as part of the NFL Play 60 national youth health and fitness campaign. At the game, the team of 11 students participated in on-field pre-game festivities and met their favorite Vikings player . . . Percy Harvin!

Erik: How does it feel playing in front of so many people?
Percy: I just take it all as a blessing. I know people in the stands would love to be on the field playing, so I look at it as a privilege to be able to play.

Steve: Did you go to college to be a football player?
Percy: I did go to college to be a football player, but I understand that one snap could be the end of it. I went to get an education too, so it wasn’t just football.

Luis: How does it feel being teammates with Brett Favre?
Percy: Awww, it’s a dream come true. For all the people that look up to him, I look up to him just like they do. He’s old enough to be my dad, but he’s a great teammate and a great friend too.

Mubarak: Do you think the Vikings will go to the Superbowl?
Percy: I hope so, we are going to push hard. We are preparing and we will see what happens.

Jaquan: How hard do you have to work to play professional football?
Percy: You have to work extremely hard. It’s a lot of hours, a lot of studying, and a lot of dedication. At the same time, it’s your job, but you’re doing what you love to do, so all the hard work makes it worthwhile.

Randy: What do you like most about playing football?
Percy: The contact! It’s a contact sport, and I always enjoyed that part of the game.

Vanessa: How many touchdowns do you have in your life, since you started playing?
Percy: I don’t know the exact number, but I would say it's around 70.

Tracey: Why is football your favorite sport?
Percy: Actually, I enjoyed basketball more, but football was the sport that I really dominated in. I was always faster than everyone else.

Filagot: How do you feel about being a front-runner for offensive rookie of the year?
Percy: It was a great privilege to be up for it and then to actually win it was amazing. I owe a lot to my teammates, coaching staff, and all the fans who voted for me.

Terrico: How did you feel at your first NFL game?
Percy: It was a dream come true. You watch a lot of these guys growing up and then all of a sudden you are out there playing with them—it was pretty cool.

Pong: What have you learned from past challenges in life and how has that helped you be a better player?
Percy: I’ve learned that nothing comes easy. A lot of people think you measure yourself while you are on top, but it’s more important to measure yourself when you are on the bottom and climbing to the top—bouncing back.

And from ACES staffers:

Chad: Who is faster, you or Adrian Peterson?
Percy: I would have to go with myself, although we haven’t raced yet. That race is to come in the summer, but I would go with myself.

Catherine: Who is/was the most influential person in your life outside football?
Percy: I would say my mom. She went through a lot of struggles raising me as a single parent . . . to see how strong she stayed and how happy she is now . . . she’s been a real inspiration for me.

Anna: Are you ever going to run track competitively again?
Percy: I think I’ve got to stick with football. I ran a year in college, but I will stick with the gridiron (chuckles).

Renee: What's your biggest pet peeve?
Percy: (smiling) When girls leave hair in the sink. I grew up with sisters and my mom, and they did a pretty good job cleaning up, but sometimes they would comb their hair and there would be this big glob of hair in the sink. That’s my pet peeve.

Special thanks to Percy Harvin and Brad Madsen, executive director community relations for the Vikings, for taking the time to fulfill this opportunity for ACES students. Skol Vikings!
