Olympic Athlete Visits ACES Green Central
Work hard and celebrate your successes, that was the main advice Olympic biathlete Carolyn Bramante shared with ACES sixth graders during a March visit to Green Central School, in Minneapolis. Bramante was on the USA biathlon team at the XX Olympic Winter Games, held in 2006 in Turin, Italy.
In conjunction with the recent Winter Olympics, ACES sixth graders at Green Central spent time researching the Winter Games and its sports, as well as the athletes involved in the Games. At the end of the curriculum unit, the students were lucky enough to be visited by Bramante, a native of Duluth.
Student Leslie reported this about Bramante. "We asked her if she gets nervous before she competes, and she said she does, but she 'doesn’t let that scare her.'”
Leslie's classmate Kimberly added, "Carolyn was nervous when she was about to start the race," in Torino.
Now, of course, the ACES sixth graders are ready for the 2014 Winter Olympics, so they can apply their newfound knowledge of the biathlon.
"Biathlon is when you ski and shoot," noted Leslie.
"The women have to go up to 75km/hr for the sprint," Kimberly added.
We thank Carolyn Bramante for spending time with ACES students. You can learn a whole lot more about her by clicking here.
