Rocco Baldelli brings learning to life in the ACES classroom
The Minnesota Twins know that all students deserve an all-star education.
On June 24th, Northeast College Prep students participating in ACES summer school program had the opportunity to watch the Twins take on Cleveland at Target Field. For many of the students who attended, it was their first time at a major league sports event.
The very next morning, Twins Manager Rocco Baldelli virtually joined ACES classrooms for a lively, inspiring discussion of teamwork, perseverance, the importance of hard work, and, of course, the Minnesota Twins! Darwin and Thomas, two ACES all-star students and lifelong baseball fans, moderated the conversation, and all students had the chance to ask questions.
Three of the Twins’ principles that Rocco shared align with and reinforce lessons taught in ACES programming:
Respect everybody.
Try as hard as you can.
Be willing to learn and get better.
Experiential learning opportunities like game visits and team leader visits – made possible through ACES partnerships with Minnesota’s professional sports teams – build community connection bolster ACES’s math and social-emotional learning curriculum. ACES is grateful to Rocco and the Twins for their support, and proud to partner with them to eliminate education disparities and bring learning to life for Twin Cities students.
