Academic Coach Spotlight - Jenny Young
Academic Coach Spotlight: Jenny Young
by Jenn Schultz
Having experienced educators on our team is always a large asset to our program team as well as our students. They bring a history of lesson planning and curriculum, a passion for youth development, and proven classroom management methods.
This is Jenny’s 2nd year with ACES. She works with the fifth-grade class at Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club. One of her favorite parts of working with ACES is being able to bring fun math games to life in her classroom. Math was always Jenny’s favorite subject in school, and she enjoys showing her students that math can be fun and less structured when it’s outside of a traditional classroom setting. She also enjoys teaching social-emotional learning, as she believes math and other curriculum learning won’t be as effective without it.
Jenny has always enjoyed Math and had a drive for helping people. She knew she wanted to find a position that combined both of those interests into a career. After eight years of teaching at Northview Middle School in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, Jenny took some time away from teaching when she started her family. She knew she didn’t want to go back to teaching full-time while her children were young, and when she heard about ACES through a friend, she knew it was the perfect fit.
Jenny has done an incredible job of building relationships with her fifth graders at Jerry Gamble! She manages the unique energies and personalities of her students with understanding and empathy.
In the future, Jenny plans to continue working in the education field and using alternative programs to make education more engaging and enjoyable for students.
