UNIQUE PERSONAL ITEMS FROM HOME
Proceeds Will Support New Virtually Based COACH Program
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.— Athletes Committed to Educating Students (ACES), a local nonprofit offering after-school learning programs, will be launching their ACES All-Star Auction Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Over the next six weeks a different Minnesota athlete and celebrities will be auctioning off memorabilia that they find in their closets (Matt Dumba’s unique hat, or Chad Greenway’s practice jersey as an example). Just like everyone, ACES All Stars are stuck at home and they are digging into their closest to help ACES. The proceeds will go directly toward supporting ACES’ new COACH (Coaching Our ACES Community At Home) program, where ACES staff will be coaching their students virtually!

THE COACH PROGRAM: Founded in November 1994, ACES provides after-school programming to youth in underserved communities in the Twin Cities, preparing students for school and their future careers through an innovative, sports-themed curriculum.
With schools and community centers closed, many ACES students are not getting the extra support they need, and students are at risk of falling further behind in important math and social-emotional skills. ACES is determined to continue providing academic support for these youth the best way we can, and so they launched the COACH program. In this program, ACES works one-on-one with students to continue their important work. They connect virtually with students every week to provide individualized math and social-emotional skill building and homework help. The COACH program allows ACES to continue fulfilling their mission to reduce the academic achievement gap in the Twin Cities.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR CHRISTINA SAUNDERS: “School and afterschool programming closures and disruptions will only exacerbate the already wide education gaps in our communities. We know we must work diligently and thoughtfully to support our students and families, and the COACH program will allow us to give each student the individualized attention they need.”
STUDENT: ACES student, Ambres, met with ACES staff member Claire Williams last week and he said, "This is really cool that we can still do our math work and talk about sports! I really like this kind of stuff in ACES!"
