Over the next six weeks a different Minnesota athlete and celebrities will be auctioning off memorabilia that they find in their closets (Matt Dumba’s unique hat, or Chad Greenway’s practice jersey as an example). Just like everyone, ACES All Stars are stuck at home and they are digging into their closest to help ACES. The proceeds will go directly toward supporting our new COACH (Coaching Our ACES Community At Home) program, where ACES staff will be coaching their students virtually!

Read MoreOne of the things that makes our Site Coordinator team so strong is their diverse background and unique experiences prior to working with ACES. Claire Williams has been a Site Coordinator at Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club since 2015, but she actually got her start with ACES cleaning offices part-time while she worked in a bakery. As her time with ACES went on, her role in the office grew and she began taking on more responsibilities. After suffering a torn ACL, she was unable to continue her work at the bakery during her recovery, and she took a more prominent role at ACES. In the spring of 2015, Claire became an Academic Coach, co-teaching a class with another Academic Coach, and it was clear this was where her passion was.

Read MoreWe are excited to introduce Carin Anderson, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and Retail Management for the Minnesota Wild, as the new chair of ACES’ Board of Directors! Carin graduated with a finance degree from the University of Minnesota where she was also working for the Gopher Athletics department. After graduation, she remained with Gopher Athletics and started her career in sports marketing. This position connected her with the people responsible for bringing professional hockey back to Minnesota, allowing her to become part of the Wild organization from day one.

Hosted by Neuger Communications Group, the event featured a panel of experts speaking to their role in reducing the achievement gap in Minnesota and how our communities can play a role in improving educational opportunities. The panel was comprised of our own Executive Director Christina Saunders; Alvin Abraham, Founding Dean and Executive Director of Dougherty Family College at the University of St. Thomas; and Lori Carrell, and the Chancellor at the University of Minnesota Rochester.

In mid-October, Boxall surprised the 5th grade ACES class at Jerry Gamble Boys & Girls Club by joining them for the day! The class was participating in the Marshmallow Challenge when Boxall arrived, and he wasted no time partnering up with Marshall and joining in the challenge.
